My Spanish Foodie Pen Pal

Foodie Pen Pals is a fabulous foodie box swap, you send a box of food goodies to someone and someone else sends you one in return and so the circle continues with everyone receiving a box of gorgeous food bits towards the end of the month.

My Spanish Foodie Pen Pal Box

Although, I've been following the swap for a while this month was my first month taking part and everything went very smoothly. I was contacted earlier in the month by my pen pal match Consuleo from Honey and Figs Kitchen asking if I had any preferences or allergies. I replied that I didn't and then headed over to her blog to check it out, discovering new blogs wasn't something that I thought the swap would bring but after seeing her amazing photography, I was hooked (and a little jealous).

Homemade Snow Cookies

Do you ever read something and wish you had it on hand to taste? Well, that's just what happened. I was reading about these delicious snow cookies on Consuelo's blog and a few days later they arrived at my door as part of my Foodie Pen Pal box, in fact I'm eating one right now.

The box came with a little note explaining what everything was and a recipe too. Everything was wrapped adorably in Christmas napkins and there were tins, oh how I love a pretty tin. This is exactly why I signed up for Foodie Pen Pals, can anything beat the sheer joy of baked goods arriving in the post?  It made my day when I got home from work to find this box waiting for me. It took a great deal of resistance not to eat everything before taking a few pictures. I have to say these snaps do not do the cookies justice so for the recipe and a bit of an eye feast do visit Honey and Figs Kitchen.

What else was in the box?

Lot's of new cookies to try

Sweet Smoked Paprika

Saffron threads

A box of hazelnut and chocolate delights

Polvorones = Almond Cookies

TurrĂ³n = nougat and the note says these are very typical in Spain at this time of year

Nevaditos = the amazing snow cookies

If you'd like to join the Foodie Pen Pal box or find out more about how it started, all of the information is available over at This Is Rock Salt. I'll definitely be doing this again in the new year, may be we will even end up swapping boxes with each other?
